Matthew Smith

Co-founder and CEO, Fortify Rights

Matthew Smith is a founder and Chief Executive Officer at Fortify Rights, an award-winning human rights organization. He was a Fellow at the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and a 2014 Echoing Green Global Fellow. Matthew's work has exposed genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, multi-billion-dollar corruption, and other human rights violations. He has written for the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, TIME, the Guardian, and other outlets. He has an M.A. in Human Rights and Religion from Columbia University and a B.A. in Political Science from Le Moyne College in the U.S. In 2022, Fortify Rights won the Asia Democracy and Human Rights Award as announced by the President of Taiwan.
