YBhg. Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican is the Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance Malaysia, appointed on 27 February 2023. A Chartered Accountant (ICAEW) and Economics graduate from the University of Cambridge, Datuk Johan has held key public sector roles including National Budget Director and Deputy Secretary General (Policy) at the Ministry of Finance, Deputy Director General (Human Capital) at the Economic Planning Unit, and CEO of Talent Corporation Malaysia. Prior to joining government service in 2004, he spent nine years in corporate finance and accounting in the private sector.
