Dr. Louisa S. Ponnampalam is a marine scientist with over 20 years of experience in the ecology and conservation of cetaceans and dugongs across global waters. She is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of The MareCet Research Organization, Malaysia’s first and only NGO dedicated to marine mammal research and conservation. Founded in 2012, MareCet aims to drive marine conservation through science, public outreach, community engagement, and policy advocacy, while nurturing future leaders in the field. In 2014, Louisa became the first Malaysian to receive the prestigious Pew Fellowship in Marine Conservation and was also honored with the Anugerah Perdana Belia Negara. She was a nominee for the 2024 Merdeka Award.
