Session Description
From widening economic inequalities to climate emergencies, global polycrises demand that we move beyond symptomatic, surface-level solutions towards tackling perennial root causes. Recognising that the outdated ways of working – legacy of siloed charity-based philanthropy – have not addressed and cannot keep up with bedrock and emerging societal problems, it is time to explore deeper solutions. Fundamentally, how can philanthropy actors within the region work better together cohesively to respond to the unique development challenges of our time?
This session will reexamine the assumptions underlying how philanthropic actors can tackle structural inequalities through effective models of collaboration. What role do philanthropic institutions play in bringing together diverse stakeholders? For example, how can implementing organisations be strengthened to sustain and grow their impact? What other actors need to be supported so that foundations know what they are funding and working towards?
Philanthropy actors are strategically situated to play a catalytic role in systems change by creating an enabling environment through collaboration. Panelists will explore the roles and gaps within the funding landscape that necessitate alliances with government, civil society and private sectors. They will unpack the key levers of change both possible and necessary for meaningful interventions. In doing so, they will outline a blueprint for action towards a cohesive force for good that is able to dismantle systemic barriers to social change while shifting power to communities.
