Malaysian Cultural Showcase: Ali and Wallace

Imagining Ali Wallace is a ground-breaking multimedia piece that combines video art installation and a captivating live performance. Created by Malaysian artists Nandita Solomon and Dain Said, along with designer Fariz Hanapiah and composer Goh Lee Kwang, this work features the mesmerising vocals of The KL Young Singers and ASWARA's Vocal Ensemble. Commissioned by Yayasan Hasanah, it incorporates images from Alfred Wallace's extraordinary natural history collection, currently housed in the British Museum and Natural History in London. 

Imagining Ali Wallace highlights the significance of indigenous wisdom and values, fostering effective and equitable outcomes in global development. It creates a sense of belonging and respect within communities, honouring their unique perspectives. Through its captivating storytelling, the piece provokes reflection on the intricate connections between individuals, communities, and the natural world, emphasising the value of collaboration and cultural preservation. The show offers a thought-provoking exploration of human connections and the need to embrace local wisdom for a more inclusive and sustainable future.
